Survivor bikini auctioned for charity

BARRE, Vt. --A former contestant on the reality television show Survivor is selling her bikini on eBay for a good cause.

Stacy Kimball, 27, who grew up in Moretown and lasted 36 days and came in sixth place on last season's Survivor Fiji, will donate the proceeds from the yellow bikini she wore on the show to the American Diabetes Association.

Kimball's adoptive mother was diagnosed with diabetes as a child, Kimball said.

"I have seen the pain this causes firsthand, from taking insulin shots twice a day, strict and regimented diet and exercise, crippling arthritis, poor circulation, numerous eyes surgeries and bad kidneys," said in an e-mail to the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus.

But proper funding and research has made her mother's life a little easier and less painful, she said.

"The meaning behind my auction on eBay is really kind of simple," she said. "It's about someone's daughter that loves her mother."

By Wednesday afternoon, bids on the yellow bikini had reached $409.

Now living and working in New York City, Kimball said she may consider auctioning off other pieces of Survivor clothing for diabetes research.
